Mock Exam Masterclasses – Easter Holidays
IBDP
Monday 29th April – Friday 3rd of May
The Easter holiday ends less than two weeks before the 2024 IBDP exam diet begins.
It is absolutely essential that students revise and develop their exam skills during this period. For this reason, we have decided to offer a short, intensive course in IB Diploma revision at the Modelex Education Centre in Fontvieille.
These courses will be led by experienced subject specialists with an outstanding track-record in the classroom. The lessons will be laser-focused on securing the knowledge and sharpening the skills that we know make the difference between an average performance (4/5) and an excellent performance (6/7). Though we can offer classes in other subjects upon request, we will be focusing on the academic core – English, Mathematics and the Sciences. At the British School of Monaco Individual Programme, our students consistently achieve excellent grades. We are experts in giving students that extra 10 – 15% which can make all the difference
We also invite students to do their own individual revision in our study space, through our ‘Study Hall’ offering. They will benefit from a focused working environment, good internet, a bank of up-to-date resources and the 1-1 support of our teaching team who will be available to answer questions and give pointers. It also creates a helpful distinction between a home and work environment that is useful for students.
While these Master Classes are aimed primarily at Y13 students with imminent exams, they will also be useful for Y12 students who want to get ahead.

At HL, these two exams are worth 60% of the final grade; at SL it is 70%, so there is everything to play for. It is also a course that depends far more on developing skills than knowledge, so smart and efficient teaching really is the key to exam success.
Paper 1 is an analysis of an unseen text – often with a stong visual component. It demands good analytical skills, good planning and good writing, and this will be the focus of our Master Class. In Paper 2, students respond to an unseen question using the literary texts they have studied in class. Knowing what and how to revise is of utmost importance; how to construct a good thesis under time pressure, and how to compare and evaluate texts.

The ACT is one of the two main tests for entrance to US universities, the other being the SAT – and at Modelex our tutors can help advise students on which of the two to select given their individual strengths. It is vital that international students applying to the top US universities score highly when sitting the ACT, as their results are used as a key data point in comparing the many candidates applying for limited places.
Our approach to the ACT emphasizes reinforcing students’ understanding of the key topics being examined: English, Maths, Science, Reading, and Writing (in the optional essay section). We ensure students practice the multiple choice format of the test thoroughly, providing detailed feedback and building up exam technique and confidence. We also work through the Science section in detail, ensuring students understand what skills this section requires them to demonstrate.
Our teachers also provide guidance and support for students in preparing to tackle the optional essay question, working with them on how best to develop their arguments and distinguish themselves in the limited time given. In addition, they are familiar with supporting students whose first language is not English in performing well when sitting the ACT.
The scores a student attains at the PSAT do not count for university admissions, but they are used to select a limited number of National Merit Scholars. These students receive Letters of Commendation, which can be mentioned on college applications and which are recognised as a significant academic achievement by admissions offices. A very limited number of students are then able to submit their school records, teacher recommendations, and a personal essay, which can result in them being awarded scholarships form the National Merit Corporation, or even from their college of choice.
At Modelex, our tutors have helped many students in preparing to sit the PSAT, both as a good preparation for the SATs, and as a way to distinguish themselves academically in the very competitive admissions process for US universities. We focus on ensuring that students have the right level of understanding of the Maths, Reading, and Writing & Language sections of the test, and that they are well prepared to work at their full potential under the time pressure of the test itself. Many of our students do not have English as first language, and our tutors are experienced in ensuring that these students have the confidence and fluency to tackle the PSAT effectively.
A Computer Science A-Level requires both an understanding of the complex theory behind the subject and the ability to program, and our tutors focus on supporting both aspects of this demanding exam. Our tutors also help students to use their knowledge and skills to solve computing problems.
Our tutors cover ancient Greece and Rome in detail, developing our students’ understanding of these complex and diverse societies using a range of primary and secondary source material. Our approach investigates the political, artistic, economic, scientific, and philosophical ideas behind these fascinating and influential cultures.
Our approach to A-Level English Literature involves reinforcing our students’ ability to understand texts in their historical and social contexts, and developing their close reading skills to help understand the significance of a piece of literature from different perspectives.
At Modelex, we have extensive experience in tutoring students in Monaco to succeed at International A-Level Business Studies, using our 5-step approach to understanding and supporting each student’s individual and evolving needs.
Our tutors help students to understand the core business functions, business strategy, and decision making, and to relate these to real-world business problems. Our approach also ensures students develop a good knowledge of business ethics, sustainability, and globalization.
Our tutors help students to develop their understanding of physical and human geography, and to master the diverse perspectives and skills that A-Level Geography requires. They also provide detailed support for Geography fieldwork, ensuring that students understand how to get the most out of this unique segment of their qualification.
A-Level Economics requires a solid understanding of both microeconomic and macroeconomic theory, good quantitative skills, and the ability to relate these theories to economic issues and problems in the real world. Our tutors help students master these diverse aspects of A-Level Economics, and to use them effectively in an exam context.
Our approach to A-Level Chemistry provides students with detailed support in mastering the full range of topics on the syllabus, ensuring that they have the knowledge, the practical skills, and the exam techniques required to excel at this challenging exam.
Studying A-Level Physics requires a thorough understanding of the relevant theories and concepts, a high degree of confidence in Maths, and key practical skills when dealing with experiments. Our tutors ensure students have a strong understanding of core areas of the syllabus, and provide detailed support in tackling optional topics that match their areas of interest.
Our approach to International A-Level History stresses the role played by individuals in history alongside the significance of the events they participate in. We focus on a range of perspectives – from the political to the cultural, and help our students to develop their own critical and reflective view on different events, individuals, and societies.

We put developing children’s love for books and reading at the heart of our approach to English tuition at Primary level. A range of diverse children’s fiction authors, non-fiction texts and poetry are used to stimulate interest and provide in depth exploration of high-quality texts. This includes the teaching of literary texts from a variety of cultures – including texts in translation – and a focus on teaching our students to critically evaluate multiple perspectives. Our teachers use a range of pedagogical tools to bring characters, settings, writing styles to life for children in age-appropriate ways, and to ensure their vocabulary and knowledge of grammar are equally well developed.
