Our Approach to the PSAT
The scores a student attains at the PSAT do not count for university admissions, but they are used to select a limited number of National Merit Scholars. These students receive Letters of Commendation, which can be mentioned on college applications and which are recognised as a significant academic achievement by admissions offices. A very limited number of students are then able to submit their school records, teacher recommendations, and a personal essay, which can result in them being awarded scholarships form the National Merit Corporation, or even from their college of choice.
At Modelex, our tutors have helped many students in preparing to sit the PSAT, both as a good preparation for the SATs, and as a way to distinguish themselves academically in the very competitive admissions process for US universities. We focus on ensuring that students have the right level of understanding of the Maths, Reading, and Writing & Language sections of the test, and that they are well prepared to work at their full potential under the time pressure of the test itself. Many of our students do not have English as first language, and our tutors are experienced in ensuring that these students have the confidence and fluency to tackle the PSAT effectively.
